Gel Eye Liner: Bobbi Brown vs. MAC

There are two market leaders for gel eye liner: MAC Fluidline eye-liner gel and Bobbi Brown Long-Wear gel eye liner. The price depends on where the products are purchased but usually the MAC option is a few pounds cheaper (£14).

Having used both for extended periods of time I prefer the Bobbi Brown offering. It has a more matte finish, the texture is slightly thicker and one careful stroke of the brush usually does the trick. As it says on the tin, it does stay on all day and certainly longer than Fluidline. The MAC eye liner is glossier in comparison but I find it can sometimes take a few strokes- going over the line again- to create the finished, even effect.

As a criticism of the BB Long-Wear it does tend to dry up fairly quickly. Once the pot is half empty it becomes a case of scraping your brush around to get enough gel liner to work with! This does not seem to happen with Fluidline so if you would rather an eye liner that will last you for months and months, opt for MAC.

Here’s a preview of how mine usually looks (slightly thicker as I was going out!)...

In terms of brushes I always opt for an angled eye liner brush. I find the slant makes it easier to be precise without the line looking too thick. My current fave is an EcoTools bamboo angled eye liner brush offering from Boots at £5.49, bargain!

MAC and Bobbi Brown of course have their own offerings for a higher price but the shape and texture does not appeal to me.

Jumpers & Collars

These pictures were taken last winter by the lovely Ellen Lai but the Jumper and collar look is timeless and still very much on trend. This outfit will be making a re-appearance for this season!

White shirts with defined collars have become one of my wardrobe staples. They can be worn in all seasons whether smart or casual, and I love accessorizing them with collar tips and chains.

My jeans are one of several pairs I own of the Topshop Super Soft, Super Skinnies in Oxblood. The material is not tough like normal denim jeans so they fit really nicely and I know I have mentioned it before but Oxblood is my 'in' colour for AW12.

AW12 outfit ideas

Summer is officially over and it is time to get out the fur coats and baggy knitwear. As the temperature has dropped to minus something outside I thought it would be appropriate to put together an outfit that reflects the weather. As you may notice I have gone a bit mad for fur gilets and, keeping it on trend, I have included....studded collar, mohair jumper, leather shorts and oxblood heeled boots. Oxblood is the current 'in' colour and one that I am loving for AW12.

Fur Gilet

I love fur gilets. They are one of those timeless pieces that never go out of fashion and for AW12 I have dug mine out of the wardrobe. I teamed it here with a glitter collar shirt, chinos and vintage-look ankle strap sandals.

For similar high street styles try: Zara fur waistcoat, Topshop fur gilet.

LOVE cropped tops + high waisted jeans

Very sad not to be at LFW. I was desperate to go to the Somerset House exhibition but alas... I have been trying to keep up with the action as much as I can online. I predict that crop tops and high waisted bottoms will still be huge for SS13!

Oufit Highlights of the Week

With the help of my Blackberry I have managed to gather a few of my outfit faves from the past week. When I get a spare min on my lunch break I can be found posing with my phone in the office cloakroom! I really need to make the move and get an iPhone for the apps and instagram but until then I will make do with what I've got.

I am still loving embellished collars, studs, leather, black and a timeless favourite which is currently doing the high street rounds (Zara & Topshop particularly)...leopard print.

Zara Trends

SO before I got told off by a Sales Assistant (?!) I managed to get some pictures in-store of Zara's latest shoe offerings. In terms of high-street trends Zara often leads the way, as has been the case with the army/military look that is huge at the mo.

Judging from the shoes and boots on offer in Zara the Studded craze is here to stay. The shop floor was littered with heels, loafers and of course jackets embellished with gold and silver stud detailing.

Shades of Khaki and black are still very much in with twists on leather and camouflage print everywhere. The army jackets are a personal fave of mine as you may have seen below!

Love the contrasting gold pyramid studs. Statement shoes.

WANT these studded loafers! They look so expensive and I am fully embracing the 'Mod' circa 1960/70s look
More beautiful stud detailing. The mid-heel design makes them more of a daywear piece.
Khaki biker style jacket with stud detail. Love the warm/thick material but at £80 it doesn't come cheap!

Surplus Camo F2 Army Jacket

LOVE the army jacket trend at the moment. Apologies for the appalling quality of the photo and messy room but I was in a massive rush. Here is me posing (cringe) in my vintage camo jacket.

MAC extravangza: Studio Fix Fluid Foundation

After my trip to Thailand I have finally got myself around to updating my blog. I have been so busy (and a bit lazy) since getting home but I have been itching to do some posts about my newly found love for MAC makeup.

As you can see a few weeks ago I treated myself to a new foundation, blusher and gel eye liner.

Link: Studio Fix Fluid
To start off see exhibit A:My Studio Fix Fluid foundation! At £20.50 I spent a little more than I have in the past on a foundation but I can honestly say it is completely worth the money.

My skin is very temperamental and although it is combination/oily, in the past certain foundations which claim to have a 'matte finish' have really dried out areas of my face as my skin is very sensitive. Therefore it was really important for me to get the right balance.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that whilst it doesn't dry out my skin, nor does it leave an oily or shiny finish. It is also really long wearing and after a day in the office I have not needed to do my usual lunchtime re-application which I expected to.

The coverage is perfect in that it evens out skintone without giving that caked look which I loathe-no orange foundation lines on the jawline! It can be applied thinly for daywear or layered for maximum coverage in the evening or a night out. It also has the all important SPF 15 to protect against sun damage which to me is crucial in a foundation and moisturiser.

Rating: 9/10.

My only complaint is that the bottle does not have a squirter at the top and sometimes the pouring can end with mess!
